USDC (USD Coin) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of one US dollar. Circle, the company behind it, says USDC is issued by its regulated affiliates, fully backed by cash and cash-equivalent assets, and redeemable 1:1 for dollars. For a merchant, that means a customer's payment is worth the same when it arrives as when they clicked "pay".
Why would a store accept USDC instead of Bitcoin?
Price stability is the main reason. A $120 order paid in USDC is 120 USDC in your wallet, with no need to sell quickly to lock in the value. That makes bookkeeping and pricing much simpler than with volatile coins.
USDC also appeals to a particular kind of customer: businesses, freelancers and people who value the issuer's regulatory posture and published reserve reports. Some merchants who are cautious about stablecoins pick USDC for the same reason. If you are deciding between the two big dollar tokens, our comparison USDT vs USDC for online stores goes deeper.
Which network does Payfim use for USDC?
Ethereum mainnet, using the ERC20 contract 0xa0b86991c6218b36c1d19d4a2e9eb0ce3606eb48. This is the single most important point on this page.
Circle issues USDC natively on dozens of blockchains (38 as of September 2026, by Circle's own count). Payfim's USDC option watches Ethereum only. A customer who sends USDC on Solana, Base, Arbitrum or any other chain will not have their order marked paid.
Label the option clearly in your checkout copy and in any payment instructions you email, for example "USDC on Ethereum (ERC20)". Payfim already shows the network next to the coin name on its checkout page.
What does it cost to pay with USDC on Ethereum?
The customer pays an Ethereum gas fee in ETH. A token transfer uses more gas than sending ETH itself. In late September 2026, with gas prices low, Etherscan's tracker put a standard ETH transfer well under one dollar, and a token transfer costs a multiple of that. When the network is busy, fees rise, sometimes sharply.
You pay nothing to receive. Payfim adds no percentage; the full USDC amount reaches your wallet.
Timing follows Ethereum: blocks about every 12 seconds, and Payfim's default of 6 confirmations means a payment typically settles a couple of minutes after it is mined.
Where should the USDC go?
Into an Ethereum wallet where you control the recovery phrase. For regular income, a hardware wallet is the safer long-term home; a reputable non-custodial mobile or browser wallet works for smaller balances. The same 0x address can collect ETH, USDT ERC20, USDC and LINK at once.
If you plan to convert USDC to dollars through an exchange or Circle-connected service, you will send it there yourself, on your schedule. Do not paste an exchange deposit address into Payfim as the receiving address.
Configure USDC in Payfim
Checklist:
- Etherscan key saved under Wallets & coins → Blockchain APIs. The free tier is enough for USDC.
- Address pasted into the USD Coin – Ethereum (ERC20) row:
0xplus 40 hex characters. - Confirmations left empty for the default of 6, or set your own.
- Coin switched on, then Save wallets and Test.
- Test payment sent from the dashboard to confirm the order flow end to end.
At checkout the customer sees an amount with four decimals, such as 120.0214 USDC. The tiny extra fraction identifies their invoice. Ask customers to send the exact figure.
USDC pitfalls merchants run into
- Wrong chain. Covered above, and by far the most common problem, because USDC is popular on low-fee chains.
- Bridged look-alikes. Bridged or wrapped versions of USDC (often labeled "USDC.e" on other networks) use different contracts and are not counted.
- Rounded amounts. A customer who types 120 instead of 120.0214 is short by about two cents. Within the 0.5% tolerance that still settles; a larger shortfall is flagged underpaid.
- Issuer freeze. Like other centrally issued stablecoins, USDC can be frozen at specific addresses by the issuer. It is a rare event, but it is part of the risk profile.
Tax treatment of stablecoin income varies by country; ask a qualified professional how to record it.
How do I keep records of USDC income?
Every invoice in the gateway stores the order number, fiat amount, coin, crypto amount requested, amount actually received, the transaction hash and timestamps. You can export the list to CSV from the invoices screen and match it against your wallet history or accounting software. Because USDC is designed to track the dollar, the crypto amounts in those records sit close to your fiat order totals, which keeps reconciliation simple. The fiat figure on each invoice is the one your store charged, so use it as the reference when you match payments.
