BNB is the coin of the BNB Chain ecosystem, and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is the EVM-compatible network where it is used for fees and transfers. It uses the same 0x address format as Ethereum, and the same kinds of wallets work with it. Many customers who trade on Binance hold BNB, which is why some stores choose to accept it.
Read this first: the API requirement
Payfim verifies BSC payments through the Etherscan API V2, the same multichain API that checks ETH, USDT ERC20, USDC, LINK and HYPE. The difference is pricing. Etherscan's own supported-chains list marks BNB Smart Chain Mainnet (chain ID 56) as not available on the free tier as of September 2026. The older standalone BscScan API has been folded into Etherscan's API.
You have two options:
- A paid Etherscan API plan that includes BSC. This is the simplest route: the same key keeps working for all your other Ethereum-based coins.
- An Etherscan-compatible endpoint entered under Blockchain APIs → API endpoint (advanced). Be aware that this one endpoint setting is shared by every Ethereum-style coin in Payfim, so it must also answer correctly for Ethereum and HyperEVM requests if you accept those.
If neither suits you, skip BNB. It is the only Payfim coin whose default data source needs a paid plan, and customers who hold BNB can often pay in USDT instead.
Why do merchants accept BNB at all?
Low cost and speed for the customer, plus a large base of existing holders. BNB Chain's documentation describes a block time of about 0.45 seconds after a series of upgrades and a standard gas price of 0.05 gwei, putting typical transfers at around half a cent or less. OpenChainBench's September 2026 snapshot put the median BNB Chain transfer fee at roughly a tenth of a cent. Fees are paid by the sender in BNB.
How long does a BNB payment take in Payfim?
Payfim's default for BNB is 15 confirmations, more than for Ethereum because blocks are so much faster. With sub-second blocks, 15 confirmations accumulate in a matter of seconds. In practice, the order updates on your gateway's next check after the payment lands, usually within a minute when the cron job runs every minute.
Receiving wallet
Any EVM wallet where you hold the recovery phrase can receive BNB on BSC, including hardware wallets and mainstream non-custodial browser and mobile wallets once BNB Smart Chain is added as a network. You can use the same 0x address you use for Ethereum; the private key controls that address on both chains.
Use a normal wallet account, not a smart-contract wallet that exists only on Ethereum. A contract deployed on Ethereum does not automatically exist at the same address on BSC.
Step-by-step setup
- Upgrade your Etherscan API account to a plan that covers BNB Smart Chain, or arrange a compatible endpoint.
- Under Wallets & coins → Blockchain APIs, save the key (and endpoint, if you use one) and click Save API settings.
- In the coin list, paste your
0x…address into the BNB – BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) row. - Leave confirmations blank for 15, switch BNB on, Save wallets, and press Test. If the test fails, check that your API plan covers BSC.
Payfim detects both direct BNB transfers and BNB sent through smart contracts, such as exchange withdrawals, as long as the smart-contract detection option under Blockchain APIs is left on.
Checklist before you switch BNB on
- API plan confirmed. The Test button for BNB succeeds.
- Checkout wording. Payfim labels the option "BNB Smart Chain (BEP20)". Repeat that in any payment instructions you send by email.
- Amount entry. The QR code for BNB contains your address only, so the customer pastes the amount themselves. The copy button next to the amount makes that easy.
- Test payment. Send a small real payment from a separate wallet and watch it move to paid in the invoice list.
BNB pitfalls
- BEP20 tokens are not BNB. USDT, USDC or other tokens sent on BSC are not counted by the BNB option. Payfim's stablecoin options run on TRON and Ethereum.
- Wrong chain, same address. A customer can send BNB-branded tokens on Ethereum or other networks to your 0x address. Only native BNB on BSC is detected.
- Old BEP2 addresses. Addresses starting with
bnb1belong to the retired BNB Beacon Chain. Payfim only accepts 0x addresses for BNB. - Free key only. If you save a free Etherscan key and switch BNB on, BNB invoices cannot be verified. Check the Test result before going live.
If you decide against BNB later, simply switch the coin off in Wallets & coins. Existing invoices keep their history, and customers no longer see the option at checkout.
