Dogecoin (DOGE) started in 2013 as a joke based on an internet meme and grew into one of the best-known cryptocurrencies. Technically it descends from the same family as Litecoin: unspent outputs, familiar wallet software, and blocks about once a minute. Culturally it is the coin of tipping, fan communities and small, friendly payments.
The short version
- Who pays with it: community-driven audiences, gaming, creators, merch stores, and people who like to spend rather than hold.
- What it costs the customer: about a cent in network fees as of September 2026.
- How long it takes: about three minutes with Payfim's default of 3 confirmations.
- What you need: a Dogecoin receiving address. No key required.
Why would a business accept Dogecoin?
Because some customers will only spend crypto they think of as "spending money", and for many of them that is DOGE. Offering it can be a conversation starter as much as a payment method: fan shops and creator stores often mention it in their marketing. For donations, it is a common way for supporters to give small amounts; see accepting crypto donations.
What DOGE is not is a store of stable value. Its price can swing a lot in a day, so price your products in fiat and let Payfim convert at checkout. The rate is locked for 30 minutes by default.
What are Dogecoin fees and confirmation times?
BitInfoCharts showed a median Dogecoin transaction fee of about 0.1 DOGE (roughly one US cent) in late September 2026, and an average block time close to one minute. Like any network, fees can rise when demand spikes, so treat these numbers as a snapshot.
Payfim waits for 3 confirmations by default. That is a sensible middle ground: fast enough for checkout, while giving a few blocks of protection. For large orders you can raise it per coin; confirmations explained helps you pick a number.
Which wallet should receive DOGE?
A wallet where you hold the recovery phrase. Several hardware wallets support Dogecoin, as do established multi-coin non-custodial wallets and the reference Dogecoin Core wallet. Payfim only needs the public address, never a key.
Dogecoin setup in Payfim
- Copy a receiving address from your Dogecoin wallet. Standard addresses start with
D(for exampleDH5y…); script addresses start withAor9. All three pass Payfim's check. - Paste it into the Dogecoin row in Wallets & coins.
- Leave confirmations blank for the default of 3.
- Enable the coin, click Save wallets, and press Test.
Payfim reads Dogecoin payments through the BlockCypher API. It works without a token, but the keyless tier has an hourly request limit. If you often have many open DOGE invoices at once, create a free BlockCypher token and add it under Blockchain APIs → BlockCypher token (DOGE).
Can I offer a discount for paying in DOGE?
Yes. The gateway settings include a Price adjustment (%) field. A negative value, for example -5, gives customers who pay in crypto 5% off; a positive value adds a buffer against volatility. Community stores sometimes use a small discount as a reason to talk about their DOGE option on social media.
A few tips if you promote it:
- Show the price in your normal currency and mention the crypto discount next to it, rather than listing a DOGE price that goes stale.
- Tell customers the checkout page is available in six languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Turkish), which helps with an international fan base.
- Remind them to send from a wallet or exchange on the Dogecoin network, and to send the exact amount shown.
How you account for coins received at a discount depends on where your business is based. Rules vary by country, so check with a qualified accountant.
Dogecoin pitfalls
DOGE on other chains. Some exchanges offer a "DOGE" token on BNB Smart Chain or other networks. That token is not Dogecoin on its own blockchain and is not detected. Tell customers to withdraw on the Dogecoin network.
Round-number habits. DOGE users like round numbers. Your invoice will show something like 412.537219 DOGE, and the extra digits matter because they identify the order. A customer who sends 412 DOGE instead is short by about 0.13%, which still falls inside the 0.5% tolerance. Rounding down on a small invoice can push the gap past 0.5%, and then the invoice is flagged underpaid. The QR code already contains the exact amount, so encourage scanning.
Exchange deposit addresses. Do not use one as your store address. They can change without notice.
Rate limits during a rush. If you run a promotion that brings many DOGE orders at once, a BlockCypher token keeps checks timely.
Next steps
Dogecoin is included in every Payfim license, from the WooCommerce plugin to the CS-Cart add-on. Pair it with a stablecoin such as USDT TRC20 for customers who prefer fixed value, and see Litecoin for another low-fee option.
